Ladies First: Team Foxy Gaming - The Interview

By RTEGonline

I’m pretty sure that at some point in our lives, some young man (present company included) has had someone say to them, “You don’t want to let that girl beat you, do you?” There’s this long-standing myth that females couldn’t possibly be the equal of or rival to a man in many given activities. Well, I’ve got news for my brethren out there… “It’s time to get over ourselves.” Major League Gaming has seen the rise of many talented and humble young ladies who apparently never got the memo that they’re not supposed to be as gifted as they are. Team Foxy Gaming is one such group and DeadlyTECH.com had the opportunity to ask them a few questions about their rise in the professional gaming ranks.

DT.com: Thanks for taking time out to speak with us today. Tell us a little bit about how Team Foxy Gaming got started and who the original founders are.
LethalxPrincess: Thank you, we appreciate this opportunity and interview. Team Foxy got started at the beginning of 2008 by a group of girls that wanted to make it more acceptable for female gamers to compete in the male dominated gaming world. Although the ladies of Team Foxy were around at the beginning of 2005, we were banned together with a name and a purpose until 2008. Team Foxy immediately became known as the top female team in the gaming industry. Janna (Mafia Chick), Stacy (SchwarznersMom) and I were the original founders of the team. Toxic Angel also helped us get stared at the beginning.

DT.com: I have to ask… who came up with the name and what are it’s origins?
LethalxPrincess: We were in New York together thinking about what we wanted to be known as; we wanted something catchy but also serious. Mafia Chick, thought of the Foxy name and then as a group we came up with Team Foxy.

DT.com: How many active players do you currently have on your roster?
J for Jade: We require our girls to stay active in their divisions, so all players on our roster are active and passionate gamers. We have three divisions; Halo 3, Gears of War 2, and Call of Duty 4/Call of Duty: World at War. In total we have around 60+ members.

DT.com: Are most of them based in the US? Do you have Foreign-based members as well?
LethalxPrincess: Most of the gamers are based in the US, because of the availability to attend tournaments. Although we do have a few females out of the US, we are looking to expand out of the country to be represented as the most talented and respected female gamers.

DT.com: Are you ladies strictly a tourney/competitive gaming clan or are you just as involved in casual gaming?
LethalxPrincess: We are strictly competitive gamers. We strive to be the best and to make it acceptable for female gamers to compete in a dominated male arena. We respect all gamers, competitive and casual alike, but we are only interested in the competitive females. Because we believe that we can pull together some of the best female gamers in multiple games and surround them with other competitive girl gamers like themselves.

DT.com: How is the support system between Team Foxy and other All-Girl clans out on the circuit?
J for Jade: We support all other female clan of all different sorts and we are very passionate about being open minded and respectful to all other girl organizations.

DT.com: How does being a professional gamer affect your personal life? Do you tend the keep the two separate or do they tend to merge together?
J for Jade: Some seem to mend their personal life into their gaming life style; I on the other hand prefer to keep it separate. This allows me to keep track with things that matter like: School, work and relationships, without getting them involved with my professional gaming life.

DT.com: It seems like a lot of people are complaining lately about All-Girl teams and I rarely hear any beef about All-Male teams. What are your thoughts on this?
LethalxPrincess: In a male dominated gaming industry you’re likely to stick out if you are female. With this comes drama, rumors, and god knows what else. But, with whatever negative energy our team gets, we always try to keep pushing ourselves to show boys that girls are good enough to kick butt!

DT.com: Do you find yourself hiding your gender, or wishing you did, when gaming online? Do you get a lot of flack from male gamers? If so, does it make it more enjoyable to kick our butts?
J for Jade: I never have had to hide my gender. I am glad to be a female gamer. With that, you are expected (if you are a girl) to come across a guy who likes to talk smack to girls, so it always puts a smile on my face when I leave a game knowing I whooped his butt!!

DT.com: Have you ever had any guys request to join your clan? (LOL)
LethalxPrincess: Many times; we have considered opening our organization up to male gamers, but it’s all in a matter of time.

DT.com: How has this year’s circuit been going for Team Foxy as far as where you’re placing in tournaments?
LethalxPrincess: Meadowlands is the first event, and even though we haven’t had a major placing yet, we’re still not giving up because the whole season is still ahead of us!

DT.com: Team Foxy was the highest placing all-girls team at the MLG Dallas Halo 3 tournament in 2008. How did that feel for you ladies and has that been the biggest accomplishment for Team Foxy so far?
LethalxPrincess: It felt amazing to actually push ourselves as an all female team and to be recognized for it. This placing has been big for our all-female teams that attend MLG’s, but were not stopping there!

DT.com: When you meet new people outside of the gaming world, do you openly speak of your involvement in it, or has it become a girl next door by day and a gamer by night lifestyle?
J for Jade: If it is brought up or questioned by someone outside the gaming world, I freely speak the way I feel about my accomplishments, as well as Team Foxy. I am very open about what I have done in gaming, even if it’s a little nerdy. Maybe it will encourage others who have an interest in gaming to support or possibly get involved with Team Foxy.

DT.com: If there is one misconception about girl gamers that you could make go away, forever, what would it be?
J for Jade: That girls will never be good enough in this male dominate gaming world to compete and actually win major gaming tournaments. Only in time will millions of gamers be proven wrong by the talent and skills girl gamers have. Hopefully Team Foxy can be those girls!

DT.com: What do you envision for the future of Team Foxy in professional gaming?
LethalxPrincess: To be bigger and better as always! We strive to be the best that we can be and following our passion for video games. In time, new things will come, but you can only take one step at a time to build something great, like Team Foxy Gaming!

DT.com: Thank you ladies!

We really appreciate Team Foxy for allowing LethalxPrincess and J for Jade to take time out of their very busy schedules to talk with us. We will continue to follow the progress of Team Foxy Gaming throughout the year and we wish them nothing but continued success as they move forward. Thanks again ladies!
